Join us in July as we hang out in Balboa Park and sketch some of the iconic views of the area. We'll be meeting on the lawn of the Botanical Building, and from their choosing our favorite vantage point.
Whether you're an illustrator, just enjoy drawing, or simply interested in hanging out, everyone is welcome! There is no cost, no dress code, no instructor, and no critique. Each participant will need all of their own supplies and picnic setup. Plan to bring your paper, drawing utensils, a chair or blanket, sunscreen/hat, and any food/drink.
Discussion prompt for this event: Let's talk about those moments – those flashes of pure, unadulterated clarity where the idea isn't just there, it's inevitable. Where the hand and the mind are moving as one, and time just… disappears. That feeling of being utterly in it.
From your own experience, how do you get there? Is it a ritual? Is it a particular kind of struggle? Do you chase it, or does it ambush you? And more importantly, when you find yourself in that state, what are you doing to tend the garden, to keep that wellspring from drying up?
About parking and the location:
Be on the lookout for our group on the lawn near the Botanical Building. A dynamic map of the entire park can be found here. For parking, there are a number of lots around the area with a free tram that runs every 10 to 15 minutes. All trams are equipped with an ADA-accessible ramp for your convenience. Please ask the conductor for assistance. Ride the green tram to to the Plaza de Panama and it's a short walk over to the Botanical Building lawn. Remember, it's okay to arrive whenever you can so take your time. Also, information about public transit can be found here.
